Squad Evaluations: England Qualify for 2026 World Cup

Gareth Southgate's side secured their berth at the global tournament with a comfortable win over the Baltic side on Tuesday night.

England's Starting XI

  • Jordan Pickford – Made a couple of excellent stops in the latter period to preserve his impressive clean sheet streak. It's now nine straight in a row. 6.5
  • The defender – Has adapted to international football with ease. More challenging tests are coming, of course, but a good start to his England career. 7
  • John Stones – Two matches in a short span will do the City defender a lot of good. Still one of the first names on the team-sheet, fitness permitting. 7
  • Aston Villa's defender – Picked ahead of the other option and didn't put a foot wrong. Made an outstanding last-ditch recovery tackle in the later stages to boot. 7
  • Arsenal's talent – Appeared a somewhat off the pace at times, expected given his lack of action at his club. An intriguing few months ahead. 6
  • The midfielder – Appears irreplaceable in this England team at the moment. Looks suited to this level and has struck up an strong partnership with Rice. 7
  • Declan Rice – Excelling in his attacking role. The backbone of England's midfield is showing his creative abilities now. Developing into a real all-round midfielder. 7
  • Morgan Rogers – Quieter as he has been in England's successes over Serbia and Wales. We should find out next month who is the rightful holder of the number 10 shirt. 6
  • The winger – Added an assist to his brilliant goal against Wales last Thursday. Will be key to England's prospects next summer. 7.5
  • The captain – Playing brilliantly. Boosted his total for the season to 20 scores. Has hit the back of the net 76 occasions for his country. Will he achieve 100? 8
  • Anthony Gordon – Precise finish to open the scoring for England here in the Latvian capital. Has done a good job during this international window. 7.5

England Substitutes

  • The veteran (for Rice 60) – Kept things moving in midfield. 6
  • Crystal Palace's star (for Rogers 60) – Excellently taken goal and a danger. 7
  • West Ham's attacker (for Saka 60) – Faces competition on his hands to earn a place when all are available. 6
  • The defender (for Stones 71) – Predictably, managed everything with his height. 6
  • The forward (for Gordon 71) – One pacy run down the left stood out. 6

After their place booked, the squad can now turn their attention for the World Cup with high hopes.
