Spurs Manager Thomas Frank Calls Vicario Booers 'Not True Genuine Fans'
The Cottagers Start Strong to Beat Spurs and Raise Pressure on Frank
Spurs supporters who jeered keeper Vicario were told later "those individuals can't be real Spurs supporters" by manager Thomas Frank.
Tottenham let in two scores in the opening six minutes to lose 2-1 to Fulham, marking their 10th top-flight at home loss of 2025.
However the primary topic of discussion was Fulham's next goal when Vicario gave away possession well beyond his box.
The goalkeeper ventured out to handle a long ball and took the ball near the sideline.
But, rather than kicking it into touch, the Italy international spun and attempted to clear, but slipped as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by King.
King passed the ball off to Welsh midfield player Wilson, who bent a shot into the net from the touchline recorded at 36.6 metres.
Moments afterwards when the ball went to the keeper once more, some Tottenham fans booed him.
The team were booed off at the interval, with the club 2-0 down, and again at the final whistle.
A particular of those booing sessions truly angered the manager.
"It came to my attention a few of our supporters reportedly booed the situation and booed after, which, in my view is completely unacceptable," the Danish manager commented about the fans' response to his goalkeeper.
"[They] cannot be real Spurs supporters that do that. Fair enough jeering following the match, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing one another, we are with one another going forward."
Tete had given Fulham a early advantage before Wilson's goal – with Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second-half performance.
Ex- top-flight goalkeeper Hart remarked that the next goal was "completely avoidable".
"I do appreciate the supporters' disappointment," the ex-keeper added. "I know the role Vicario is playing. He is a great squad member, he's a real leader in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your actions.
"The keeper was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the winning goal."
'It is Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'
Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Game
Italy national team Vicario is in his third season with Tottenham.
He stated after the game that he had to accept the feedback.
"That goal was a error of my own, I accept accountability for that," he said.
"My aim was to clear the ball far and I just hit the ball in a bad way. It was an even bigger challenge to overcome."
He stated receiving jeers "comes with the game".
"I am mature, how can I respond?" he added. "The team cannot be affected by the situation in the crowd. The fans have the right to do as they see fit.
"It's on us to stay increasingly calm, to concentrate on ourselves. The team is missing in calmness and poise to reverse results. This match is a bad defeat and it's tough to accept."
'I Was Surprised No One Went Back to the Goal Line'
Despite Vicario's mistake, it was far from an easy goal for Wilson to convert.
Actually it was the next longest-range Premier League score of the season – after Tyler Adams' 43.3 yard goal for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which interestingly also came on Saturday.
The goalscorer stated he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an open goal to target.
10 seconds elapsed between the keeper coming out of his area and Wilson shooting – which was five moments following the kick.
"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was away from the box for a long time," Wilson remarked.
"I was surprised not one of the defenders returned to the line. When none of them defended the net, my interest sparked a bit.
"[Destiny] Udogie slipped as well, which gave me a bit of additional time. After that it was solely about trying to achieve the right contact and place it towards goal. I felt a positive sense, as soon as it came off my foot, that it was heading in."
'When You're in a Poor Run, All Appears to Work Against You'
Booing Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unacceptable - Frank
While Vicario's error led headlines, this was an overall bad performance for Tottenham to continue their home woes.
This was their tenth home defeat of the year in the league, a shared team statistic matching nineteen ninety-four and 2003.
They still have home fixtures against the manager's old side Brentford and title holders the Reds to play before the end of the year.
Only one of those wins have occurred after Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou in the summer.
"If you are behind 2-0 following six minutes, there is a mountain to overcome," stated the boss.
"When you're in a poor run, all aspects appears to work against you as well – the opening was a redirected shot, the second is a mistake from the keeper.
"The outcome puts us in a position where we have lost an additional game. Each fixture has a unique story, this game we lost in the early stages.
"We simply need to keep working. The later period was much better and with luck something we can utilize to develop."
Tottenham have been defeated in 4 straight home London derbies for the first time in the top division.
And they are recording nine point five attempts and 3.2 shots on target per match in the division – their lowest rates on record in a one season (dating back to 2003-04).
Former Cottagers midfielder Danny Murphy stated that the manager has to endure the criticism.
"He's got take the criticism," Murphy said. "He has taken a high profile role at a major team with enormous expectation. There is pressure and duty that comes with that.
"Their showings at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
